Charles Novo Jr. Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established by the Union in 2007 to honor the memory of Charles Novo, Jr. who led the decertification effort that lead to the establishment of AME. Applicants for this essay scholarship will be required to submit an essay on the topic of “LABOR AND POLITICAL ACTION, HOW ADVOCACY IMPACTS POLICY"
As both employees and residents of Suffolk County, the policies and legislation put into place by our State and local Elected Officials impact us at home and at work. Through political action, Suffolk AME has advocated relentlessly on behalf of our members, and helped to draft and pass legislation that improves their working conditions. In your essay, explore the relationship between organized labor and political advocacy in shaping public policy.
